The jazz ensemble is a place where students can explore music in the jazz tradition, particularly bebop, post-bop, Latin, and Brazilian styles.
Students will learn improvisation through the study and performance of jazz and blues. All instruments are welcome. At least one year of instrumental study and the ability to read music are prerequisites.
All instruments get involved in improvising! Players learn a jazz standard together then explore the world of improvising over chord changes and in longer solo sections.
Students are in a supportive group environment to allow safe exploration without the nerves of being on stage as a performer.
Students explore music in all jazz genres - bebop, post-bop, latin and Brazilian jazz.
The jazz ensemble is invited to play at multiple events throughout the semester for Bloomingdale's community.

We provide access to music education to anyone who seeks it, regardless of economic status, ability, ethnicity, or religion, which has a profound impact on individual lives as well as on our entire community.
Our goal is to make music education accessible and to remove the financial barrier that may prevent students from participating. Therefore, we offer need-based financial aid to as many students as possible.
